A elderly man who died after a blaze ripped through his home in Fife has been named locally as Thomas Hynd.
The 93-year-old was rushed to hospital after a fire broke out at his bungalow on Miller Avenue in Crossford on Wednesday afternoon.
Emergency services raced the scene shortly after noon after reports that the property was well alight.
Mr Hynd was rushed to the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy in a critical condition, but just hours later police confirmed he had tragically passed away.
Police, who were initially treating the incident as unexplained, confirmed on Thursday morning that there were no suspicious circumstances.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said on Wednesday: “Police in Fife are currently working with the Scottish Fire & Rescue Service to investigate the circumstances surrounding a fatal fire in Crossford.
“Officers were called around 12.15pm on Wednesday 20th March to a report of a fire at a property on Miller Avenue.
“A 93-year-old man was taken to the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy, where he sadly died.
“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
Three fire appliances from Dunfermline were sent to the scene where crews, who used breathing apparatus, battled the flames for over an hour.
A spokeswoman said: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at 12.02pm on Wednesday, March 20 to reports of a dwelling fire in Crossford, Fife.
“Operations Control mobilised three fire engines to Miller Avenue where firefighters extinguished the fire.”
