Tesco’s Cupar store was shut for several hours as police investigated the break-in at 12.35am on Thursday. Customers were allowed entry at around 10am. A by-stander said it appeared as though the thieves had tried to smash their way through the fire exit door. Police have so far been unable to confirm what has been stolen but said enquiries were ongoing. A post on the supermarket’s Facebook page on Thursday morning said: “Due to an ongoing incident at the store we will be closed until further notice.” Signs were also erected at the South Road building. The store’s petrol station remained open. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police in Fife are investigating following a break-in to a business premises in Cupar. “The incident was reported around 12.35am on Thursday April 18 at a supermarket in South Street. “Inquiries are ongoing to establish what has been taken from the store and identify those responsible. “Anyone with information is asked to contact Levenmouth CID and quote incident number 083 of the April 18.”
