A nurse and member of Kinross Road Runners is training hard for Sunday’s London Marathon when she will step out to raise money for Epilepsy Scotland.
Lynn Beveridge, who is based at Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline, has the condition herself and had originally planned to go to the capital to support her husband John who will be running in the event for a third time.
However, when she saw an Epilepsy Scotland post on Facebook about a previous runner who took part, she plucked up the courage to run the 26 miles herself.
Epilepsy Scotland is a charity which is close to Lynn’s heart as both she and her daughter have the condition.
Daughter Jennifer was diagnosed while she was in high school in 2011, while Lynn was diagnosed more recently in 2017.
The diagnosis came as a total shock and greatly knocked her confidence and it took a while for Lynn to adjust.
“I work as a family nurse and my job involves visiting families in their own homes.
“Not being able to drive initially made this impossible.
“Thankfully through Epilepsy Scotland I found out about government funding to support me and managed to start visiting clients again by taxi.
“This was a huge boost and allowed me to carry on doing a job I love and also maintain a sense of normality.”
Lynn is a keen runner and has run with her local club Kinross Road Runners over the last few years.
She has completed lots of 5 and 10ks and a few half marathons but has yet to conquer the full 26.2 miles.
Despite this, Lynn is looking forward to the London Marathon and is determined to soak up the atmosphere.
She said: “I am pleased to say my training has gone well so far and I am now enjoying the reduction in mileage ahead of the big event.
“I feel a mixture of nerves and excitement at the moment and I am looking forward to wearing my Epilepsy Scotland vest on the day and I am determined to try and soak up the atmosphere and enjoy it as much as I can.”
She has raised almost £2,500 so far smashing her original target of £1,500.
The charity’s fundraising head Robyn Friel wished the couple well.
“They have raised a fantastic total for Epilepsy Scotland, and I am sure they will enjoy the occasion in London.”
