This year’s Methil Gala will be officially opened by Game of Thrones star Clive Russell.
The actor, who has also appeared popular shows including Ripper Street and Still Game, lives just along the road in the East Neuk and was only too happy to support the local event.
Gala organiser Rev Gillian Paterson said: “He’s a really lovely guy. He’s quite a character and just a nice human being.
“It does create a bit of interest, particularly Game of Thrones people who are really excited about him coming along.”
Russell played Brynden Tully, also known as the Blackfish, in seven episodes of the hit fantasy drama created for the American cable channel HBO. The finale of the series was watched by more than 19 million viewers when it aired in April.
The gala will kick off at noon on Saturday at Aberhill Primary School, with entertainment continuing until 4pm.
During the afternoon there will be performances from Enigma Gymnastics Club, the Fiona Gallacher School of Dance, Red Note Ensemble and MeganM Fit, with opportunities for crowd participation.
Ms Paterson said: “One of the highlights of the day is the crowning of the royal party, who are all pupils from Aberhill Primary School.
“Molly Robb is this year’s Lady Wellesley, and David McPhail is Lord Wellesley, and they will be joined by their attendants and footmen on the stage for the crowning after our town crier Christian Sibthorp has called the crowd to order.
“The local fire station are bringing their fire engine and all being well we will once again have the Green Goddess too.
“There is a host of local groups, voluntary organisations and partners who will have lots to share with the crowd about what they do and the help they can give, as well as lots of stalls including a grand prize raffle, novelties and gifts.”
Afternoon teas will be on offer and characters including Snow White and Spiderman are expected to make an appearance.
“They may even have some free gifts to distribute and, of course, they’ll be delighted to have their photo taken with you,” said Ms Paterson.
