Gala season is in full swing across Fife with communities gathering to celebrate civic events.
Bringing a bit of showbiz to Methil Gala was East Neuk based actor Clive Russell, known by Game of Thrones fans for his portrayal of Brynden Tully, or the Blackfish, in the hit fantasy drama.
Russell, who officially opened the event at Aberhill Primary School, mingled with fans, posed for selfies and signed autographs.
He has links to the gala through local resident Amy Mathewson, who worked for the actor’s father in his shoe shop. The star said he now calls her “mum”.
Reverend Gillian Paterson from Wellesley Parish Church thanked Garry Blyth, the head teacher at Aberhill Primary, and the school’s janitor for their support. The event was held at the school while building work went ahead at the church.
She added: “So many people worked very hard today. It was a herculean effort to move everything from the church to the school and back but we did it with the help of many folk.
“Thanks to everyone who worked so hard. Hours and hours of work went into today and it is deeply appreciated.”
Saturday was also the start of Burntisland Civic Week, with the parade along East Leven Street heralding the start of a packed programme of activities.
Summer king and queen Ella Forrest and Spencer Davies lead the Burntisland parade, which saw youngsters in fancy dress add a splash of colour to the event.
Following the parade, crowds gathered at The Links for entertainment including fancy dress judging, pony rides, falconry and a visit from local fire station crew.
Meanwhile, also on Saturday, Cowdenbeath Children’s Gala started with a parade from Woodend Industrial Estate to the park, bringing a Mardi Gras atmosphere to the Fife town.
At the park there were fun fair rides, inflatables, Highland dancers, majorettes and live music to keep the crowds entertained.
