Fife Council has given the final green light for work to begin on the replacement for Madras College in St Andrews.
After a saga which has lasted for well over a decade, Fife councillors were finally able to give the go-ahead for a land deal that which will allow construction of the new secondary school to begin on the preferred location at Langlands.
Council officials have been given the green light to trigger an option agreement for a simultaneous exchange of the St Andrews University-owned Langlands site for the Fife Council-owned South Street campus plus an additional £2.5 million contribution towards the cost of the access road to serve the new school.
The university will immediately lease the South Street campus back to the council at a nominal rent until the buildings are vacated and the new school at Langlands is finished.
Senior manager Alan Paul told councillors building contractors are primed to start work next month.
