Efforts to rid Levenmouth of nuisance bikers have resulted in a 40% drop in complaints to the police.
Officers have seized 20 illegal motorbikes and quads and charged 84 people with driving offences and anti-social behaviour since the introduction of a team dedicated to tackling the issue.
Councillors said the work being done by police, in collaboration with community groups and other organisations, was having a welcome and noticeable effect.
Two dedicated officers were deployed in Levenmouth in April, as part of the approach to tackling illegal bikers.
They are clamping down on what had become a growing number of riders who have been intimidating locals by speeding along roads, pavements and open land.
Other anti-social behaviour, including underage drinking, the theft of bins and wilful fireraising, is also being dealt with by the team and five extra CCTV cameras have been set up.
Inspector John Docherty of Levenmouth police station said considerable work was still being done on the issue but warned it could arise again over the summer.
“Be assured it’s something we’re focused on,” he said.
He added that while intervention and enforcement continued, “meaningful diversion opportunities” were also being explored to give young people safe places to go.
“We have seen a reduction in motorbike and quad bike calls,” Mr Docherty said.
“When considered against the backdrop of our encouragement to communities for increased reporting, these results are very encouraging.”
SNP councillor Ken Caldwell, convener of Levenmouth area committee, welcomed the results so far.
“There has been a positive effect on illegal motorbikes and quads,” he said.
“It’s most noticeable in the reduction in the number of calls being received and I’m very thankful for the measures that have been taken.”
The new team was introduced following scores of complaints from exasperated locals about the long-standing motorbike problem in the area.
The approach also involves the fire service, health and education professionals, the voluntary sector and Kingdom Off Road Motorcycle Club.
Calls to police about off-road bikes in Levenmouth more than doubled to 1,098 last year, 23% higher than in the previous two years combined, and accounted for 59% of all Fife calls about motorbikes.
