Many sisters get together on birthdays to celebrate. But there can’t be many celebrating their 100th birthday with their older sister. That was the case for Gauldry’s Ruby Moir who marked her magnificent milestone on Saturday with her sister, 107-year-old Ethel Lees, at her side. Mrs Moir’s daughter Pam MacKenzie said the sisters were the only siblings left in a family of 16. The farming family came from Auchterhouse, outside Dundee. The young Ruby Milne met and married Malcolm Moir and they, with Pam, spent many years in India. They returned to Scotland in 1959 and settled in Dundee. Mr Moir died in 2000 and Mrs Moir came to Fife to be nearer her daughter, son in law and grandchildren. Meanwhile Mrs Lees spent 55 years in Vancouver. She too returned to Scotland and now lives in a care home near Monifieth.
