A police dog has been hailed hero after a woman with dementia was reported missing in Fife overnight.
Emergency services were called to help with the search for the 73-year-old woman who is understood to have gone missing from a property in Kirkcaldy on Thursday night.
Police Scotland, Kinghorn Coastguard and South Queensferry Coastguard were all called to assist, and an extensive search of back gardens and coastal paths were carried out throughout the early hours.
Trained police dog Tora who managed to locate the vulnerable lady on the Fife Coastal Path at around 5am on Friday morning.
She had managed to seek shelter in some undergrowth near Seafield Beach on the outskirts of Kirkcaldy.
A spokesman for the Police Scotland dogs section said: “The lady had been missing for hours and had managed to crawl into brambles.
“Thankfully Tora was on the case and sniffed her out.”
All the coastguard crews were stood down and a spokesman for HM Coastguard praised all concerned for a “fantastic” outcome.
