Police in Fife say they are investigating after a 62-year-old man was assaulted and robbed near Kirkcaldy train station.
Officers cordoned off a large area of pavement near Bennochy Bridge on Bennochy Road, just yards from the station car park, on Thursday morning, sparking a great deal of interest from people making their way to the station or work in Kirkcaldy town centre.
A spokesman for Police Scotland confirmed it was investigating reports that a 62-year-old man had been assaulted and robbed in the early hours of Thursday morning.
“Police in Fife are investigating following an assault and robbery in Kirkcaldy,” the force said in a statement.
“The incident happened around 2.10am on Thursday August 8 on Bennochy Road.
“A 62-year-old man was walking on Bennochy Road when he was approached and assaulted.
“The victim was knocked to the ground and then robbed of a two-figure sum of cash.”
The man was taken to Kirkcaldy’s Victoria Hospital but was released after treatment.
Police confirmed that enquiries are ongoing to identify the suspect and anyone with information should contact Kirkcaldy CID via 101 and quote incident number 341 of August 8.
