Residents in Fife’s East Neuk have set up their own emergency response scheme.
East Neuk Community Emergency Planning Team (ENCEPT) is a newly formed organisation within the remote corner of the country.
It will spring into action in the event of a community emergency, such as flooding, severe weather or power cuts.
They have been working with community councils and other groups in the area to draw up a community emergency plan in partnership with Fife Council.
The group’s spokesperson Julie Middleton said the team has created a free telephone number, 0800 999 6543, which members of the East Neuk community can use during unfolding emergency.
“We then, in conjunction with the Fife Council emergency resilience officer, can activate our emergency plan and offer a co-ordinated response,” she added.
The group has support from other services offering life-saving aid inlcuding East Neuk First Responders and Anstruther Lifeboat crew.
The initiative does not replace traditional emergency services and Julie said the new number should not be used for life threatening emergencies.
The group is raising funds to equip each village and community with a response kit. Further information can be found on Facebook or e-mail encept@hotmail.com
