New student halls-of-residence in St Andrews have won a prize for architecture.
Whitehorn Hall was named by the best residential development in the Scottish Design Awards.
The four-storey building by University Hall in Kennedy Gardens was commended for its design, a series of collegiate-style quads said to be the sympathetic to the existing residence.
Named after writer Katharine Whitehorn, the first female rector of St Andrews University in 1982, the 184-room hall opened last year.
Ben Stuart, director of residential and business services at the university, said: “The university is delighted that Whitehorn Hall was the recipient of the recent design award.
“This award cements our ambition to provide a world-class student experience within residences where students are comfortable and safe and which allows them to produce their best work.”
