Kirkcaldy MSP’s awful mop finally gets the chop in aid of a good cause

David Torrance MSP getting his hair cut for charity.

Politicians generally make cuts is grudgingly but First Minister Nicola Sturgeon was only too happy to do so on Thursday.

Kirkcaldy SNP MSP David Torrance saw his now-trademark locks lopped off in aid of cancer charity Maggie’s.

Mr Torrance has been growing his hair for months and has raised more than £1,200 for Maggie’s Fife.

Ms Sturgeon made the initial snip before leaving Mr Torrance’s barnet in the capable hands of staff from the Revolution Barber Shop.

He said: “In the year since I started growing my hair I’ve had a lot of feedback from my friends, family, colleagues, and constituents about it. I even had the occasional compliment.

“I’d like to thank everyone who donated to the fundraiser, the First Minister for being such a good sport and Mark from Revolution for their help to bring this together, and of course Maggie’s for all the incredible work they do to support those facing cancer in my constituency.”

Donations can still be made at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/the-mops-getting-a-chop.

Maggie’s head of fundraising Valerie Ross said: “As a charity Maggie’s relies on donations and fundraising efforts such as David allow us to continue to develop our unique, high quality programme of support, offering the best support possible to people with cancer as well as their family and friends.”
