Messages of support have been flooding in for a young man who was critically injured in a car accident in Fife at the weekend.

Tayler Martin, 18, was rushed by ambulance with a police escort to Edinburgh’s Western General Hospital on Friday night following a two-car crash on the outskirts of High Valleyfield.

Tayler was one of the passengers in a Ford Ka involved in a collision with a Ford Fiesta on the A985 at the junction with Clinkum Bank.

His parents have revealed they have held a conversation with their son since the accident, although a long road to recovery remains.

They added it had been an “extremely tough” 48 hours after the crash but said they had been “proud” of the progress their son has made so far, and set up a message book on Facebook where friends and family members could pass on their best wishes.

Among those contributing has been Dunfermline Athletic striker Lewis McCann, who posted a video wishing Tayler well.

“All the best from everyone at Dunfermline, wishing you a good recovery and hope to see you at East End Park soon enough,” he said.

A pupil at Dunfermline’s Queen Anne High School, Tayler is a promising football referee and was recently awarded the Archie Webster trophy by the Fife Referees Association, a prestigious accolade handed out to up-and-coming officials who have shown dedication, good attitude and ability among various other attributes.

Such is his standing, Kelso Football Club also passed on their regards to the family after Tayler refereed Kelso Thistle’s 3-0 Scottish Am Cup victory over Fauldhouse on September 7.

“We are all thinking of you and wishing you make a speedy recovery,” the club said.

A number of other people were taken to Kirkcaldy’s Victoria Hospital following the accident on Friday, but their injuries were not thought to be life threatening.

Police are continuing their investigation into what happened.

Sergeant Stephen Quinn, from Fife’s road policing unit, said: “Our thoughts are with all affected by this tragic road traffic collision on Friday.

“I am appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or captured it with dashcam footage to come forward.”

Anyone who may have seen the incident or the vehicles involved prior to the incident should contact Police Scotland quoting incident 4269 of Friday September 13 2019.
