Police and firefighters have been called to a car blaze just north of the Queensferry Crossing.
The vehicle, said to be a silver Mercedes, went up in flames on the northbound M90 Edinburgh to Perth road just before 10am.
Motorists have been told to expect delays after the blaze caused a lane closure.
One motorist who passed the incident said the engine of the car had been “destroyed”.
She added: “They have got the flames out. There’s two police cars and two fire engines.”
A fire and rescue spokeswoman said: “We are in attendance there. I don’t have any further updates.”
A police spokeswoman said officers were called to the scene at about 9.50am at the request of the firefighters and helped direct traffic.
Nobody is said to be injured.
Traffic Scotland posted: “M90 Ferrytoll northbound, lane one is currently closed due to a vehicle fire on the hard shoulder. Road users are advised to approach with caution and expect delays.”
