One of the busiest roads in Angus has been closed after heavy rainfall caused it to flood.
The A92 Arbroath to Dundee road has been left impassable eastbound and has been shut off from the Eithiebeaton roundabout near Monifieth since early on Monday afternoon.
The flooding it said to be worst at Muirdrum, near Carnoustie.
It comes after Angus was hit with an incessant downpour across the weekend and into Monday.
The route has been badly flooded due to rainfall several times this year.
At about 1.40pm, a police spokeswoman confirmed that the A92 had been closed eastbound at the Eithebeaton roundabout.
Locals have reported road closures in the Westfield area of Carnoustie due to flooding. Ravensby Road has also been shut in the town.
Traffic is said to be heavy between Carnoustie and Arbroath with congestion reportedly heavy on the Barry Road.

Posting to the Facebook page Arbroath Online earlier on Monday afternoon, Jenna Mcgregor wrote: “The main road/lanes from Dundee to Arbroath A92 is extremely flooded.
“It was slowed right down and nearly impassible. I can’t see the road being left open on that side much longer and tailbacks were already forming.”
UPDATE – ROAD CLOSED

Local routes leading to the A92 were also badly affected, including the B962 between Ardestie and Newbigging.
Local resident Rod McLeod said: “The gratings along the road are filled with mud and the water has nowhere to go.
“It’s pouring off the fields and that is not helping the problem.
“The water is just running down the sides of the road, and right across it in several places,” he added.
He raised the roadside drain issue with Angus Council following the last deluge – which also saw customers trapped in Forfar town centre premises after a flash flood – and said a gulley clearer was to have been brought in late last month.
“My fear is that drivers will be caught out by this, especially the likes of motorcyclists in the dark,” said Mr McLeod.
It comes after the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Sepa) has put an amber alert in place for Dundee and Angus.
The warning states: “Rivers throughout the region are expected to rise due to prolonged rain on Monday. Potential impacts could include localised flooding of land and roads, including individual properties, particularly in southern areas of the region.
“Flooding from surface water is also possible during heavier periods of rain on Monday.
“Remain vigilant and remember, it is your responsibility to take actions which help protect yourself and your property. Advice and information is also available through Floodline on 0345 9881188.”
It comes as roads across Fife were hit by severe flooding.
