Arbroath and Dundee football fans will unite on Saturday in a bid to break the taboo around mental health.
A Walk and Talk has been set up by Richard Peter-Tennant and Paul Murphy to raise awareness of men’s mental health and suicide prevention.
It will take place this weekend when Dundee play Arbroath in a league match in the Scottish Championship at Dens Park.
The walkers will start from the club shop at Dens and head to the Balgay Hill pub for a pit stop.
The group will then walk back to Dens before the game starts.
Arbroath FC said the walk would be especially poignant following the recent death of Bailey Menmuir.
Bailey’s body was discovered on an area of land just a few hundred yards from his home, on January 10, following a five-day search.
Arbroath hosted a charity football match between Bailey’s team FC 1320 and a side made up of his closest friends to raise money for the Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM).
A club spokesman said: “The typical age range of a male football supporter links very closely to men who are tackling mental health issues.
“Unfortunately there still seems to be a stigma about being a man and not being able to open up or talk.
“We all want that stigma to vanish and strongly encourage everyone, especially men to open up and talk.”
He added: “We are delighted to help promote Richard and Paul’s excellent upcoming Walk and Talk, especially with the tragic passing of Bailey Menmuir.
“Bailey was a good friend to many of our young supporters and his death has left the town devastated.
“The success of the recent charity match and all those who attended will keep Bailey forever in our thoughts.”
Richard and Paul’s first walk took place in November when Dundee played Dundee United in a local derby.
Paul, from the West End, and Richard, from Newport-on-Tay, said the event was not just for men, but one for all the family – even those who aren’t football fans.
Men, women, children and dogs took part in the walk along with representatives from Dundee FC Community Trust and Andy Man’s Club Dundee.
They raised awareness through the media and had an early day motion put forward in the UK Parliament.
They raised £2,000 for charities including CALM, Andy Man’s Club Dundee, Dundee FC Community Trust and Dundee Samaritans.
