A joiner faces being sent to prison for a minimum of five years after being caught with stun gun devices disguised as torches.
Christopher Nicol, 40, faces being jailed for the mandatory minimum period after he admitted buying the weapons from online shop Wish.
Nicol was also caught with nearly 2,000 diazepam tablets and a fifth of a kilo of cannabis, which he claimed were for his personal use.
Fiscal depute Eilidh Robertson told Dundee Sheriff Court: “On May 18 2018 the police attended his home address with a search warrant.
“He was traced within and 128 diazepam tablets were recovered from his bedroom. He told them his car was parked at a business park. A further search warrant was obtained for the vehicle. A full search was carried out.
“Two containers with 1,702 diazepam tablets, 64 grams of cannabis and 123.8 grams of cannabis resin were recovered.
“Two disguised stun guns were also recovered. He admitted purchasing the stun guns from Wish, stating that he thought they were stun torches.
“He stated he thought they were capable of creating an electric spark and a torch. He didn’t offer any explanation for why he had bought them.
“The stun function and the torch were independent of each other. They come under the legislation as firearms disguised as other objects.”
Nicol, of Clova Road, Kirriemuir, admitted having two stun gun devices in his Subaru Impreza at Logie Business Park in Kirriemuir.
He also admitted having cannabis, cannabis resin and diazepam, and Sheriff Tom Hughes granted him bail while sentence was deferred for reports.
Stun guns – which can fire up to one million volts and are 20 times more powerful than police Tasers – are being openly sold online for less than £20.
