Angus country singer and fiddler Laura McGhee has launched a campaign to raise money to complete her new album.
The album will share the story of how it felt for her to leave Scotland to venture across the Atlantic to pursue her dreams.
The Monifieth-born musician and songwriter hopes to raise $2,500 to begin the recording process in Nashville and release her album Life is Bigger Than a Dream in late summer.
Laura said: ”This new album has been in the making for the last few years and includes songs written with some of the most prolific Nashville songwriters.
“It also shares the story of how it felt for me to leave Scotland to venture across the Atlantic to pursue my dreams.
“I self-funded my latest EP – How Leaving Feels in 2014 – and after touring and promoting this EP in the USA and UK I am ready to complete the project and release it as an album.”
Laura plans to record the rest of the album with Mike Loudermilk who has worked with many top country artists including Chet Atkins, Crystal Gayle and Tracy Lawrence.
She said: “This amount will allow me 50 hours studio time.
“The funds will be used solely for studio costs which includes Mike’s incredible musicianship.
“I will be independently funding the production costs, pressing and manufacturing of the finished product and covering costs for promoting the album.
“It is important for me to make this music as it has been close to my heart for the last few years and shares many personal stories and feelings of my journey so far.”
Laura’s Scottish roots have played a pivotal part in her transatlantic success, with her celtic/country music drawing a large following.
That support has helped Laura to repeated success in the Americana chart.
Born in Monifieth, Laura developed an interest in music as a young girl attending Seaview Primary.
She went on to Monifieth High, then the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow, where she took an honours degree and a post-graduate diploma in music.
As well as performing modern and folk songs, she’s an accomplished classical musician.
Her first album, Green Eyes, was released in 2006, and she has previously performed with Shane MacGowan of The Pogues, Rod Stewart and Pete Seeger.
