An Angus woman has visited her grandson in Thailand for the first time since her son’s funeral.
Trish Winton’s son David Wyllie was killed in a road accident on February 3 last year.
The 36-year-old lived in Ban Chang, two hours from Bangkok.
Trish recently travelled to visit her two-year-old grandson, William, and his mother Kai.
She said: “It was very emotional for me as I was surrounded by my son’s memories.
“It’s still very raw but at the same time it was wonderful to see Kai and William.
“He is growing so fast and I’m very proud of the fact that Kai, with her limited English, is trying to speak half-English and half-Thai to William.”
Mr Wyllie worked in the oil industry and lived in Thailand for more than five years.
The former Montrose Academy pupil’s death left his dependants without an income and Trish has been raising money to send William to the English-speaking Reps Rayong school.
Trish said William is starting nursery this month, thanks to the generosity of the community.
It will cost around £30,000 for William’s education from nursery to year 13.
Trish said: “He even knows his alphabet and is ready to start nursery school at Reps Rayong this month, so it’s quite exciting.
“Kai sends her heartfelt thanks to the people of Montrose for their generosity and amazing fundraising efforts.
“Our next fundraiser will be a ceilidh at the Park Hotel in February 2017, details of which will be advertised later in the year.”
