The Arbroath girl who received a Christmas message from her pop idol Olly Murs has made her own video in reply.
Seven-year-old Ruby Walker, who is awaiting a life-saving double lung transplant to help her overcome the cystic fibrosis, put meeting Olly at the top of her bucket list of things to do before the operation.
After The Courier’s story, Olly made contact with Ruby’s family and sent a message to the youngster wishing her a “lovely” Christmas.
The pop star also said he hoped to meet her in person next year.
Now Ruby has thanked Olly and her supporters with her own video message.
With Olly’s hit Wrapped Up playing in the background, Ruby holds up a number of messages in front of a Christmas tree.
They say: “I’m waiting on a lung transplant. My uncle John wanted to make my dreams come true before my transplant and we’re almost there.
“I also wanted to say thank you to everyone who has helped make this happen. It has made me so happy.
“I love Olly Murs.”
Ruby’s family are awaiting the call from Newcastle’s Freeman Hospital which will trigger the mercy dash when a potential donor is found.
Her mum Diane said: “Ruby wanted to say thank you to everyone and is a bit shy so her sister 10-year-old Emileigh suggested doing a video and of course Ruby wanted an Olly song in the background.
“Ruby has been overwhelmed with everything that has happened in the last couple of weeks.
“She can’t believe how many people are following her Ruby’s Dreams Facebook page and have viewed Olly’s video to her.
“She wanted to say thank you personally.
“When I picked her up from school she said ‘Mum everyone wants to speak to me – is that because I’m famous now?’.”
As well as meeting Olly, Hayshead Primary pupil Ruby also wanted to go to Hamleys toy shop, which she did last week.
She also hopes to be a queen for a day, hold a monkey as a zoo keeper and become famous in the countdown to the major op.
In Olly’s video message to her, which she watched on Sunday night, he said: “Hi Ruby, It’s Olly Murs here. I hear that I was top of your list for a little message so I wanted to say a massive hello to you.
“I hear you’re very brave and I’m sending lots of love and kisses to you right now.”
Before signing off his message with a kiss, Olly added: “Have a lovely Christmas and I’ll see you next year.”
