Northbound traffic was reduced to one lane while emergency services dealt with the accident, and a tent was erected around the scene.
Accident investigators remained on scene for some time, with tarpaulins shrouding the rear of the lorry and the car involved.
Late on Wednesday afternoon a police spokesman said: “Police Scotland can confirm that a man sadly died as a result of a road traffic collision on A90 near Gallowfaul, Tealing, Angus this morning.
“Enquiries are continuing and no further details will released until next of kin have been informed and formal identification has been carried out.”
A fire service spokesman said: “We have been and are in attendance at the scene of an accident on the A90 near Tealing.
“Three appliances from Dundee, two from Kingsway and one from Macalpine Road, were in attendance.
“One engine remains and it’s been scaled down.”
A second, separate incident, occurred nearby on the A90 when a tanker caught fire.
