A 47-year-old man died in Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, last night after his motorcycle collided with a car on the A92 north of Inverkeilor.
Emergency services rushed to the scene just before 6pm.
Police and the ambulance service, including an air ambulance, attended and the road was closed following the collision.
The driver of the car and the motorcyclist were taken to Ninewells, where the motorcyclist sadly died.
The motorist was treated for minor injuries.
Police are not releasing the identity of the dead man until his next of kin have been informed.
A motorist caught on the closed-off road described seeing police checking debris and speaking to the occupants of cars closer to the accident scene.
Police issued an appeal for witnesses to call 101 if they have any information.
The stretch of road on which the crash occurred is known locally as dangerous, with several collisions occurring in the area over the years.
