A doctor was reportedly stabbed in the hand at an Angus medical practice.
The doctor was working at Links Health Centre in Montrose when the incident happened at around 4.45pm yesterday.
A 42-year-old has been arrested following what police would only describe as a “disturbance”.
However, a staff member at the health centre, who did not wish to be named, said a GP had been stabbed.
She said the doctor was “doing OK” and fortunately did not have serious injuries.
The incident unfolded within the centre, with police stressing there was no risk to the public.
Those living close to the practice, on Frank Wood Way, said several police vehicles raced to the scene just before 5pm, with staff rushing out into the car park.
A man was also reportedly seen running around the centre wearing just jogging bottoms with no top on.
Fiona Dalton, a resident living near the health centre, said she heard sirens and looked outside to see what was happening.
She said: “A load of police cars raced in to the car park with sirens blaring.
“I thought maybe it was a fire alarm at first when I saw all the staff running out.
“But there were no fire engines, just police.
“I saw one police car race to the back of the building and swing round. I don’t know if they were trying to block someone from coming out the staff exit round that way.”
Inspector Steve Rose, of Police Scotland’s Tayside Division, confirmed a man was arrested following the incident.
He said: “Police were called to Frank Wood Way, Montrose, at 4.55pm on Monday in relation to a disturbance.
“The incident was contained in a specific building. There was no risk to the wider public and the male concerned has been taken in to custody.
“I would like to take the opportunity to thank the public who were at the incident for their cooperation and patience while it was dealt with.”
Staff could still be seen within the health centre after it closed last night.
Police remained on the scene until well into the evening, combing the building for evidence and speaking to staff members.
The force eventually left at around 8pm.
