A 26-year-old passenger has died after a car collided with a tree at Camperdown Park.
It is understood a black Ford lost control at Coupar Angus Road, near the A923, and collided with a tree just before 11pm on Sunday.
Police confirmed the 26-year-old man, who was travelling in the vehicle, died at the scene.
The 31-year-old driver was seriously injured and is undergoing treatment at Ninewells Hospital.
A section of Camperdown Golf Course was cordoned off by police following the incident and a staff member, who did not want to be named, said police had remained at the scene throughout the day.
He said: “I hadn’t heard anything until I came into work (on Monday). We don’t know much about it but it’s horrible that it’s cost someone their life.”
A dog walker, who was at the park on Monday, said the accident was a tragedy.
He added: “I’m here most days with the dogs but I had only just heard about the crash this morning.
“It’s a horrible tragedy when things like this happen, especially to such a young lad.”
Police remained at the scene throughout Monday as enquiries into the crash continue.
A spokesperson for the force, said: “Around 10:55pm on January 5, police were called to a road crash at Camperdown Park, Dundee, in which two men – a 26-year-old passenger of a black Ford and a 31-year-old driver had been seriously injured.
“Emergency services attended, however the 26-year-old died at the scene.
“The 31-year-old was taken by ambulance to Ninewells Hospital where he remains for treatment.
“Inquiries are continuing and a report is being sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”
Emergency services rushed to the scene in an effort to save the two men, as fire services had to cut the men free from the vehicle.
A spokesperson said: “We were called by police to attend a one vehicle RTC at 11.11pm and we mobilised two appliances from Macalpine Road.
“Cutting equipment and spreading tools were used as passengers had to be cut from the vehicle.
“The police were also in attendance and the ambulance services were aware of the RTC.”
