Eight new coronavirus cases have been recorded in Dundee, bringing the city’s total to its highest number since May, according to the latest statistics.
A breakdown of the latest Public Health Scotland data shows that 12 people across Tayside tested positive for Covid-19 from Tuesday into Wednesday.
Of this number: eight were recorded in the Dundee City Council area, two were in Angus, and a further two in Perth and Kinross. Two new cases were also recorded in Fife.
It is the third day running that Dundee has experienced an increase in people testing positive for coronavirus.
From Monday into Tuesday there were five new coronavirus cases recorded in the City of Discovery, and one the day before.
Ten people tested positive in Perth and Kinross from Monday into Tuesday, and two the day before; compared to one and zero for the same days in Angus.
Wednesday’s figure brings the total number of Covid-19 cases in Dundee to its highest level since May 20.
Across the whole of Scotland there were 50 new coronavirus cases in the past day.
The total number of people who have tested positive for the virus in the country since the beginning of the pandemic is now 19,457.
It comes after First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said 17 of Wednesday’s positive Covid-19 tests were linked to a cluster at the 2 Sisters food processing plant in Coupar Angus – and that this figure was likely to rise even higher.
Of these, 15 were employees at the factory and two were people in the wider community.
It is not yet known if the Dundee cases are linked to the Coupar Angus cluster.
Speaking at the daily coronavirus briefing in Edinburgh, Ms Sturgeon said: “My figures at the moment say that 17 cases have been linked to this outbreak (in Coupar Angus).
“Fifteen of those are employees of the factory and two are in the wider community. Contact tracing is on-going.
“Now these figures will be updated after the incident management team meets later today and I would expect these figures to rise from those that I’ve reported now.
“The factory has been closed down for a two-week period. The 900 workers have been advised to self-isolate. And a mobile testing unit remains on-site so that workers can be tested.”
It comes after a positive Covid-19 case was linked to Kingspark Primary School in Dundee.
