A 41-year-old man has appeared in court accused of murdering another man in Arbroath.
Jackie Doig, of Strathcarron Place, Dundee, is accused of assaulting Frankie Melvin, 34, before pursuing him and repeatedly stabbing him on the body with a knife and murdering him on August 26.
He made no plea after appearing at Dundee Sheriff Court on Friday in relation to the incident on Newbigging Drive and Spitalfield Place.
Sheriff George Way remanded Doig, represented by solicitor Jim Caird, in custody and continued the case for further examination.
He is expected to appear again at court at a later date.
A major police investigation was launched after the body of Mr Melvin, originally from Dundee, was found on Spitalfield Place, Arbroath, at about 6pm.
Police cordoned off Spitalfield Place, along with connecting Newbigging Drive, and remained at the scene in the following days.
