A pet owner has slammed the council after his dog was hit by a car in a city park last week.
The incident occurred when Matthew McInerney was walking his dog in Balgay Park.
A private vehicle, which entered the park through a council access gate which is normally kept shut, hit the animal at a high speed.
Mr McInerney has said the council should take some of the blame as they failed to ensure the gate was locked.
The dog appears to have recovered from its injuries.
Mr McInerney said: “The gate was open – it shouldn’t be open. They should be ensuring the gate is not open.
“My dog was hit by a vehicle that was flying down.
“There were several cars – I did manage to stop them and spoke to one of the passengers. The person driving the vehicle didn’t speak to me, so I couldn’t really see them.
“The passenger was very aggressive, saying ‘get the f*** out of my way’ and ‘f*** off’.
“There is only ever council vehicles in the park – that area isn’t open to public traffic, but they weren’t council cars.
“My dog is sore, but he’s lucky the car only clipped him.”
A spokesman for Dundee City Council said: “Padlocks that usually secure the gates were missing when the regular checks were carried out and a number of comments have also been received from members of the public.
“The padlocks will be replaced as soon as possible, but in the meantime we would appeal to drivers using the park, particularly those going to Mills Observatory as part of the Oor Wullie Bucket Trail, to drive slowly and carefully, and with particular regard for other park users.”
