An investigation is under way after a newborn baby died at a house in Dundee.
Police and ambulance crews were called to North Erskine Street in Stobswell just after 7pm on Sunday.
The death of the youngster is being treated as unexplained while the cause is established.
It is understood the baby’s mum was also taken to hospital.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Around 7.05 pm on Sunday August 8 police received a report of a newborn baby having died within a house in North Erskine Street, Dundee.
Post mortem to establish cause
“A post mortem examination will take place in due course to establish the exact circumstances of the death which police are currently treating as unexplained.
“A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.”
At least three police cars and an ambulance incident response unit were at the scene on Sunday night, with a police presence remaining there into Monday morning.
Locals spoke of seeing police activity but were unaware of the nature of the incident.
One man, who lives across the road on Malcolm Street, said: “When you see a few police cars and an ambulance you know something serious has happened.
Police presence overnight
“One of the paramedics was speaking to the police, like giving a proper statement it looked like to me, the guy was taking proper notes, not just chatting.
“The majority of the police were gone not long after that. There’s been at least one police car outside since though.
“I saw one parked this morning when I took the dog out, that must have been about 7.45am.”
Police were still outside the property later in the day on Monday evening.
Another neighbour spoke of seeing police on nearby Court Street a short time later though it has been confirmed the incidents were not connected.
