WATCH: One-legged man becomes the toast of Tannadice

Dundee United won last night to take themselves to the top of the Championship table — but that may not have been the highlight.

For those fans who resisted the lure of the half-time pie, there was a moment of sheer joy as one-legged fan Tommy Mckay took part in and utterly owned the half-time goal competition.

Given 10 seconds to make his way from the halfway line, Monifieth man Tommy needed only six before chipping home an almost Ralph Milne-esque finish.

Tommy lost his leg as a nine-year-old due to an aggressive form of bone cancer called osteosarcoma.

He credits football for saving his life as his cancer was discovered when he broke his leg during a kickabout in the playground.

He now plays for Scotland’s first amputee football team, run by limb loss charity Finding Your Feet and Partick Thistle FC.

Tommy was one of four United fans facing their Dunfermline counterparts in a shoot-out for slap-up VIP hospitality.

A spokesman for competition sponsor McEwan Fraser Legal said: “Tommy told us he was confident in his ability to take part in the #HomeAdvantage Challenge. However, none of us expected the sizzling skill he showed.

“The fact that United’s substitutes stopped their warm-up and cheered with the near 6,000 crowd made it all the more special. Since then it has been retweeted thousands of times.”
