School pupils took over the Dundee Rep Theatre as part of a major work experience project.
Enterprise @ the Rep gave sixty young people from across the city the chance to gain real-life experience of working within a theatre.
The pupils went through a job application process, from a formal written application through to shortlisting, workshop and interview, with those who are successful going on to participate in the project under the mentorship of Dundee Rep and Scottish Dance Theatre staff.
The successful candidates became directors, actors, dancers, scenic designers, costume designers, stage managers, lighting designers, sound designers, creative learning facilitators and members of the press and marketing team.
Dundee Rep’s Education, Skills and Training Facilitator, Heather Cassidy said: “This is the eighth year of the project and the pupils worked on a short scene from this year’s Christmas show George’s Marvellous Medicine by Roald Dahl.
“There was a presentation by the ‘actors’ and ‘dancers’, a short film by the ‘press officers’ and presentations by the others in various roles.
“Everyone seemed to be having a great time and I think everyone got something out of it.
“One of the things we’re proud of this year is seeing the influence of the project on young people’s future choices — some of them have come to work for us after finishing school.
“It’s great to see young people seeing the theatre as a viable career choice.
“But even if they don’t want to work in theatre, there’s still plenty they can learn as part of the project, for example for people interested in science the sound and lighting part is exciting as it lets them see the science behind it.
“There are so many transferable skills to be learned from the workshops.”
Enterprise @ the Rep is said to be the only project of its kind in Scotland.
