A Dundee restaurant that suddenly closed without explanation is to reopen again next week with a new menu and revamped interior.
Customers were left confused last month when The 172 at the Caird on the Nethergate shut its doors due to “unforeseen circumstances”.
Owner Cosmo Molinaro had been leasing the business out to a third party and got a call “out of the blue” to inform him they had ceased trading.
The restaurant will be back under his management when he reopens it on Thursday, January 19.
Cosmo said: “I can’t say much about the closure situation for legal reasons. All I can say is the company we were leasing the business to ceased trading on December 28.
“I was very puzzled because the restaurant only opened in March and it seemed like it was going so well.
“I came up to Dundee to see what was happening and got the keys back.
“At the time there wasn’t much we could do in terms of responding to customer queries as we were not in control of the website, but it is now under our control.
“We will honour gift vouchers purchased before the closure and will have a range of special offers and a free glass of bubbly for customers coming to the reopening on Thursday.
“It will then be business as usual. We have completely changed the menu and have also made changes to the interior.”
Whereas previously the restaurant was focused on formal fine dining, it will now have a brasserie vibe about it with “simple but beautifully executed” dishes.
The restaurant has been moved from upstairs to the ground floor, with the upstairs space reserved for functions.
As well as the a-la-carte menu there will also be a more casual bar menu with offerings including deep fried jam sandwiches.
Cosmo added: “There will be something for everyone.
“People will be able to come in for a soup and sandwich, or for a special occasion.”
