The search for a dog thought to have been trapped underground in a Dundee cemetery has proven unsuccessful.
Bella, a 10-month-old Lakeland terrier, disappeared while walking with owner Sheila Gaughan in Balgay Park on Saturday afternoon.
Staff from Dundee City Council’s environmental services department and firefighters have spent the past two days digging in Balgay Cemetery in the hope of spotting Bella.
On Tuesday morning council workers used a specialist camera to try to sense where Bella may be.
Search dogs complete with sensors also scoured the area, but were unable to locate a scent.
One volunteer involved in the operation said he is now certain the dog is not in the area explored by searchers.
Speaking on Tuesday morning, senior environmental services offer Brian Gilmour admitted it is essential that Bella is found soon.
He said: “We’re trying to work out if the holes are connected.
“Richard, who I work with, thinks if Bella has gone down one of the holes she may have got herself stuck.
“Some of the ground is really sandy. The search dogs will be able to bury down into the holes and if they come back out it means Bella is not there.”
Despite not being unable to find Bella in the area in question, volunteers have insisted they will continue to search.
