Dundee Contemporary Arts (DCA) is to get a third cinema screen under plans revealed in the Tay Cities Deal document.

The new cinema space will become the first in the UK to be dedicated to children.

An ambitious vision for the future of the creative centre, entitled DCA 20, is one of over 50 projects planned for Tayside in the Tay Cities Deal document published on Friday.

If agreed by the Scottish and UK Governments, the deal could bring up to 15,000 jobs to the region along with £1.8 billion of investment.

In addition to the structural changes required to construct the third screen, the DCA will also create a new digital area for creative learning, fabrication and events to help deliver inclusive growth.

The restaurant and shop is also set for an upgrade, according to the proposals.

Beth Bate, director of the DCA, said the project would help mark 20 years of the DCA.

She said: “We’re delighted to be part of this ambitious vision for the future of Dundee, Angus, Fife and Perth, and in particular for the opportunities it provides to continue expanding the region’s vibrant cultural sector.

“As DCA approaches its twentieth anniversary in 2019, this bid would allow us to serve our large, diverse and hugely loyal audience even more effectively by expanding our offer, including the introduction of the UK’s first dedicated cinema space for children and young people.”

Other plans for the DCA listed in the documents include a new‐look interior, improved digital and built infrastructure required to cope with 450,000 visits annually and a new entrance facing the Waterfront to help attract new visitors.
