A 42-year-old man is expected to appear in court in Dundee today in connection with the deaths of a man and a woman on Sunday morning.

It has been reported that Julie McCash and David Sorrie were both killed while attending a vigil in Drumlanrig Drive for an autistic teenager who fell from Arbroath cliffs on Saturday afternoon.

Eighteen-year-old Ralph Smith ran away from his father on Saturday afternoon and fell into the water below.

One family member told the Daily Record: “It’s possible the noise from the winds upset Ralphie
and he’s ran off away from his dad. He probably didn’t realise they were walking near to the cliff edge.

“Ralphie was autistic and the wind noise might have spooked him. It’s a terrible tragedy. His parents are distraught.”

A major search was carried out but is believed the teenager drowned.

It is claimed Ralphie’s family had gathered in Drumlanrig Drive to offer support to one another on Saturday evening following the Angus tragedy.

Neighbours then reported hearing screams around 6.30 on Sunday morning.

Some witnesses said the incident spilled out on to the street and a woman was heard screaming for help.

Emergency services descended on the area but both Ms McCash and Mr Sorrie did not survive their injuries.

Police later detained and charged a 42-year-old man in connection with the deaths.

Tributes have been paid to Ms McCash and Mr Sorrie online.

It is understood Ralphie’s mother Nicola Duffy, who lives in Dunfermline, is being comforted by relatives in Dundee.
