Speaking early on Tuesday evening, Detective Sergeant Graeme Wishart confirmed that a 37-year-old man had been taken to hospital following reports of the incident on the Hilltown at about 4.10pm.
His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
DS Wishart said: “At about 4.10pm this afternoon police received a call that a male had been stabbed on Victoria Road near to its junction with the Hilltown. We responded to that.
“One male has been traced, a 37-year-old with injuries, he’s been conveyed to hospital by ambulance
“We’re trying to establish the full facts of the circumstances here.”
He called on any witnesses to the incident to contact police on 101.
