At least three people have been injured, one seriously, following a horror crash on a notorious Dundee junction on Tuesday morning.
A Stagecoach East Scotland double-decker bus and a blue Toyota ProAce were involved in the collision at the junction of Strathern Road and Fairfield Road around 10.30am.
The people carrier was knocked on to its side and the windscreen of the bus smashed in the crash.
The road was closed for more than five hours with police, firefighters and paramedics all at the scene.
One person was seriously hurt in the collision. A number of other people suffered minor injuries.
The conductor of the bus injured her head in the collision but is not thought to have been seriously hurt.
Several people involved in the crash were treated by paramedics at the side of the road before being taken by ambulance to hospital.
A Stagecoach East Scotland spokeswoman said: “One of our vehicles operating on service 73 was involved in an incident this morning.
“We understand in addition to the car passengers, five bus passengers and our conductor required treatment.
“We have launched a full investigation into the circumstances and we are cooperating with Police Scotland as required.”
One Strathern Road resident said: “I was walking in Albany Terrace at 10.30am when I heard the crash.
“I didn’t see it but I heard it. It was really, really loud.
“This junction is really bad for accidents. People think cars will slow down to let them cross, but they don’t.”
UPDATE – Fairfield Rd now CLOSED between Arbroath Rd and Strathern Rd. https://t.co/UXBTUB4Yh4

A Tayside Police Division statement on the crash reads: “Police Scotland is appealing for information about a serious road traffic collision that took place at the junction of Fairfield Road and Strathern Road, Broughty Ferry, about 10.30am this morning.
“The collision involved a Stagecoach double decker bus, and a blue Toyota ProAce people carrier-style car.
“One person sustained serious injuries which are not thought to be life-threatening, while several other people sustained minor injuries.
“The road required to be closed until late afternoon to allow investigation work to be carried out, and we would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding during the road closures.
“If anyone witnessed the incident or has any information that could assist our investigation, in particular if they have dashcam footage, please call 101 or speak with any police officer.
“Also, information can be given anonymously through Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111. Our reference is incident 1216 of July 30.”
It appears the people carrier’s passengers were a group of golfers on their way to play a round.
Buses were redirected via Dundee Road in both directions as emergency services deal with the accident.
⚠️ Due to a RTC on Strathern Road, services 5 | 9/10 are currently diverted via DUNDEE ROAD in both directions.
Therefore, Strathern Road & Craigie Drive will not be served until further notice. We will resume normal routes as soon as the road re-opens.
