British Transport Police has confirmed a person was killed after being hit by a train near Broughty Ferry on Friday night.
Officers were called to Balmossie Station at 9.07pm following reports someone had been struck by a train.
It is understood the incident occurred on the track between Balmossie and Broughty Ferry.
The individual was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
A British Transport Police spokesman said: “British Transport Police officers were called to Balmossie Station after a report that a person has been struck by a train.
“Officers from British Transport Police and other emergency services attended the incident, which was reported at 9.07pm and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.
“Medics from the Scottish Ambulance Service attended and pronounced the person deceased at the scene. ”
The spokesman added a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal, as is the case in all sudden deaths.
No further details on the victim have been released.
The railway line was closed on Friday night while BTP officers began investigations into the incident.
It reopened on Saturday.
Replacement bus services were put in place for passengers while the line was closed on Friday.
A significant number of emergency service vehicles attended the incident on Friday night, including the Scottish Ambulance Service, Police Scotland and British Transport Police.
Only a handful of services stop at Balmossie Station each week and there are no services at all on Sundays.
Consequently, only a few hundred passengers use it each year.
