Police probing the death of a man who was knocked down and killed on a busy Fife road at the weekend remain hopeful more motorists will come forward with dashcam footage to help their investigations.
Robert Walker, who was from the Levenmouth area, is believed to have been walking home from a night out in the early hours of Sunday morning when he was involved in a collision with a car on the A915 Largo Road in Leven.
Emergency services were called and paramedics battled to save his life to no avail. The 59-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
Tributes have been paid to a “loving father, brother and uncle” on social media in the hours since news of Mr Walker’s passing emerged, and relatives have spoken of their “total shock” at the accident.
Police Constable Wayne Allen, of Glenrothes roads division, appealed for witnesses to come forward and believes more dashcam footage, or CCTV images from nearby properties, may help shed light on the circumstances surrounding the incident.
He said: “Our thoughts remain with the friends and family of Robert at this difficult time.
“Our investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances, and we would appeal to anyone who may have seen this crash to speak to officers.”
The accident happened at around 2.20am on Sunday morning at a bend in the road near the Scoonie Roundabout, at the junction with the B927 Cupar Road.
The main road between Leven and Largo was closed for more than six hours while crash investigations were carried out.
Diversions were in place for most of the morning from the top of Scoonie Brae, with motorists asked to use alternative routes.
Eyewitnesses said a taxi and a Skoda vehicle were recovered from the scene shortly before the route was reopened at around 8.40am.
Early indications suggest the vehicle involved had been travelling behind the taxi at the time just prior to the incident.
The 22-year-old driver of the vehicle which struck Mr Walker was said to be uninjured, and he is understood to be helping police with their ongoing enquiries.
