Fife’s local authority care homes are the latest to ban visitors, as two more cases of coronavirus are diagnosed in the region.
Eight care homes across the kingdom have put a stop to non-essential visits in an attempt to protect residents from infection.
Other privately-owned care homes in the area have already taken similar precautions.
The move came before the total number of cases diagnosed in the region rose to six on Saturday.
Scotland-wide there are now 121 confirmed cases, an increase of 36 on the number of positive cases known on Friday.
A Fife Health and Social Care Partnership statement said: “To ensure that the impact of coronavirus is managed in a way that limits the risks to our residents and the general public, we are asking that all non-essential visits to our care homes are stopped until further notice.
“Essential visits from GPs and other health professionals providing care or treatment as part of critical needs within a resident’s care plan and relatives visiting those as part of end of life care will continue.”
The homes affected are: Ostlers House, Kirkcaldy; Napier House, Glenrothes; Lindsay House, Lumphinnans; Ladywalk, Anstruther; Northeden, Cupar; Methilhaven, Leven; and Matthew Fyfe and Jean Mackie, Dunfermline.
