An investigation has been launched after human remains were found at a Fife industrial estate on Sunday evening.
The grim discovery was made in Glenrothes’ Whitehill Industrial Estate just after 5pm, and the scene and surrounding streets were quickly cordoned off.
Eyewitnesses have reported a large police presence in the area throughout the evening, with police vehicles blocking access towards the top end of the industrial estate.
Police tape could be seen at the side of Whitehill Road and forensic investigators are expected to be on the scene first thing on Monday morning.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 5.20pm on Sunday 27th September 2020 police were called after unidentified human remains were found at an industrial estate on Whitehill Road in Glenrothes.
“Enquires are at an early stage.”
One local walker, who declined to be named, said: “It started just after dinner time with a couple of police officers and then loads of them turned up.
“They have shut the road off and put police tape everywhere.
“I was out walking my dog and asked them what was going but they wouldn’t tell me.”
It is unclear how long the human remains have been there for, or if the person is a man or a woman.
