A new post office is to open in Crail, almost 10 months after its predecessor shut its doors for the last time.
The Beehive will play host to the new service, and the new post office terminal will sit alongside the retail till.
Staff will be fully trained in running the operation, and security procedures will be put in place ahead of the May 23 starting date.
Linda Lockhart, owner of the Beehive, said: “The feedback from the community about the post office opening has been brilliant – our shop is the best place to have it.
“I believe people had written in to the post office to say we should get it.”
The Beehive was approached to ask if they could take over the service after another local business pulled out of a deal with the post office at the eleventh hour.
Councillor Donald Macgregor, who represents the area, said the opening was a bit of good news for the community, which has recently lost its bank facilities.
“People in Crail are delighted that it’s going back. They’ve recently lost their bank, it’s now just an ATM, so people are extremely pleased about this,” he said.
He added: “The East Neuk villages require all these things.
“These places need to have proper services – they pay the same taxes as everyone else.”
Post Office services will be available during the store’s opening hours, 9am to 1pm Monday to Saturday from January to March and then from 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm, Monday to Saturday – except for Wednesdays when the branch will close at 1pm – from April to December.
