All Fife schools will remain closed on Thursday as a result of the wintry weather, Fife Council has confirmed.
Fife education chiefs took the decision late on Wednesday night to shut all of the region’s local authority nursery, primary and secondary schools, and have acted even earlier to confirm school closures with a Met Office red warning in place for much of the region.
A spokesperson for Fife Council confirmed: “All schools will remain closed tomorrow (Thursday).
“We’ll issue new advice as & when they re-open.
“Fifedirect text/email alerts will only be sent when your school opens.
“You can check status at fifedirect.org.uk/closures.
“We’d like to thank parents for their support in difficult circumstances.”
Steve Grimmond, Fife Council’s chief executive, said: “We must follow the national advice and the safety instructions issued by Police Scotland.
“It’s never an easy decision to close schools or any council facility, and this hasn’t been done lightly.
“We hope parents and other residents will understand and bear with us as we try and keep as many critical services running as possible.”
Hopes remain high that some schools may be able to reopen on Friday, although conditions will be monitored and parents should continue to check the usual channels for updates.
Fife College has also confirmed that its campuses will remain closed on Thursday, with the situation for Friday to be reviewed.
