The family of a missing Strathkinness man have described his disappearance as “out of character”.
Police said relatives of Andrew Norrie, 45, were “understandably worried” after he was reported missing on Monday and urged him to get in touch.
Mr Norrie, a married dad-of-two, was last seen in Strathkinness on Sunday evening.
Local people said the area was “swarming” with police as the search for the Howe of Fife Rugby Club member continued.
Members of the club organised a search operation on Monday evening with around 60 joining in the effort.
One woman described seeing teams of officers with sniffer dogs and a helicopter as the hunt was stepped up.
“There were loads of police vehicles at Strathkinness top crossroads, Kincaple and Edenside,” she said.
Friend Struan Nimmo described Andrew, who is a coach for the local girls’ under 12s team, as a “gentle giant”.
He said: “Nobody would ever have expected this. He is always so calm.
“He is a really passionate guy who loves rugby.
“The Howe family have all come together to to search for Andy.
“We just want to get him back safely.”
Inspector Callum Winton of Police Scotland said: “It is out of character for Andrew to have left home without saying where he was going.
“His family are understandably worried and just want to know that he is okay.
“I would ask anyone who may have seen Andrew, or who has any information or knowledge as to his whereabouts, to contact us so we can ensure he is safe and well.
“I would also appeal to Andrew to get in contact with us, or with family and friends.”
Mr Norrie is described as being around 6ft 5in tall, of heavy build and with short receding strawberry blonde hair.
When he was last seen he was wearing a blue Berghaus jacket, green hooded jersey, blue jeans and dark blue trainers.
He wears glasses but it is understood he did not have them on when he was last seen.
Police said Mr Norrie has links to Edinburgh and the Broughty Ferry area of Dundee.
Anyone with information is asked to call Cupar Police Station via 101, quoting incident 527 of Monday August 20.
