Kinghorn resident Roddy McDonald is among volunteer spotters helping British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) locate the whale in the Forth so a rescue can be carried out.
When BDMLR rescuers can get close enough, and when the weather allows, they will use specialist equipment to cut the 35-tonne mammal free.
Mr McDonald said: “Living in Kinghorn I was surprised and delighted when these wonderful animals started showing up here in 2017.
“I have to say that capturing this video was only possible due to sighting alerts circulated between the dedicated enthusiasts in the Forth Marine Mammals Project Facebook group, several of whom can be heard in most of my videos.”
