Children at a Fife school who were left devastated following the loss of their beloved mascot were all smiles again on Thursday afternoon after his safe return.
Staff at Masterton Primary School in Dunfermline launched an appeal for the safe return of Dexter, a toy koala that has been the school’s mascot for more than a decade now.
It was thought that Dexter was misplaced at some point on Saturday, amid suggestions that he may have been lost at the Victor Paris Bathroom showroom in Edinburgh’s Dundee Street.
But just as it seemed the search might prove fruitless, thanks to the power of social media, Dexter was found at a McDonald’s restaurant in Edinburgh’s Gorgie Road and has been returned to the school.
Louise Reekie, administration assistant at the school in Aberdour Road, said the children had been “very upset” by what happened but are delighted Dexter is back.
“Dexter has been with us since we opened 12 years ago and every week he goes home with one child and they take him on weekend adventures, take pictures and write about their time with him,” she explained.
