Rail services were ground to a halt through Tayside and Fife after a person was struck by a train on Friday afternoon.
The incident took place in Bridge of Earn at about 3.30pm.
Police were called to the scene.
The line was closed between Perth and Ladybank with services between the Fair City and Edinburgh called off.
A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: “Officers were called at 3.23pm on February 28 following a report of a casualty on the railway at Bridge of Earn, which is being investigated.”
A ScotRail statement read: “Unfortunately we have had reports of a person being struck by a train between Perth and Ladybank, because of this services are unable to run between these stations in both directions.
“We are working closely with emergency services and will update you once we receive more information from our staff on the ground.”
The condition of the person involved is not known.
The railway line reopened at about 5.30pm.

It happened as a second person was struck by a train in Fife at about 4.25pm on Friday.
UPDATE: The line between Perth & Ladybank has just reopened now, we'll soon be able to start reinstating services between Perth & Edinburgh.
