A group of ten pupils from Blairgowrie High School enjoyed hands on experience when they took over Little’s Restaurant in the town and provided a three course meal to paying customers.
The same pupils recently had an educational trip to the fish market at Peterhead, organised by restaurateur Willie Little who regularly sources and buys his fish and seafood there for use in his restaurant and at his award-winning fishmongers in Crieff.
As well as a visit to the market, the youngsters toured a fish processing factory and experienced conditions on a trawler, meeting the skipper and crew.
The partnership between the school’s home economics department and Littles is through its educational Sea to Plate initiative, funded in association with Seafood in Schools.
Principal teacher of home economics at the school, Lynne Smith said: “We are very grateful to Willie for letting us have the run of the restaurant, it’s been a fantastic experience.”
