One of Perth’s best known hotels has shut down without warning.
The Lovat Hotel, off Glasgow Road, closed its doors on Thursday amid speculation it has ceased trading.
The sudden closure has caused chaos for guests, as well as local couples who have booked weddings at the venue.
It is understood around 20 people work at the hotel.
Calls to the hotel are going unanswered and sites such as booking.com said rooms are “temporarily unavailable”.
The Lovat describes itself as the “ideal location” for weddings and other family occasions and boasts of featuring a newly refurbished venue.
International chain Best Western, which promotes the venue, has been asked to comment.
SNP MP Pete Wishart has called for clarity. “I am really concerned to hear about the sudden closure of the Lovat Hotel.
“Whilst we don’t yet know all the details, it is worrying to hear of any business shutting its doors in this manner. I will be making contact with Best Western to get more information about the closure and to find out what plans they will put in place for those who already have events booked with the hotel.”
He added: “I hope that this issue will be resolved as soon as possible and that plans can be put in place to safeguard jobs and existing bookings.”
