An Australian sex offender has been remanded to a maximum security jail for drawing an offensive image and showing it to a female prison officer.
Robert Basterfield had been convicted for showing photographs of his genitals to staff at a Boots store as he tried to buy Viagra.
He was inside Perth Prison with no means of taking photographs so drew his genitals instead and showed the picture to two female warders.
On Friday, at Perth Sheriff Court, Basterfield, 47, from Perth, admitted the offence.
Sentence was deferred for the preparation of reports.
Solicitor Linda Clark, defending, said: “I am not belittling anything the complainers may have said but there’s certainly an element of schoolboy artwork.
“In relation to all of the matters he has been involved in, I would put this at the bottom of the pile regarding seriousness.”
Sheriff William Wood said: “The trouble is that he is subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO).”
In 2007, Basterfield became the first person in Scotland to be made the subject of a SOPO and was banned from being alone with any woman, while earlier this year he became the first person in the UK to be made the subject of a SOPO twice.
He was jailed for 25 months at Perth Sheriff Court after a series of incidents that left his victims suffering “fear, alarm and distress.”
